It’s been exactly 2 months since my last post, and for that, I apologize. For whatever reason, after Simon and I evacuated Russia/Mongolia and got back to the joys of Southeast Asia…I just stopped writing.

It’s my last day in SE Asia and I’m struggling with summing up my trip, but I will try. Back home in both Chicago and Denver I felt like life was happening to me - I didn’t feel alive. Out here I have felt like I’ve lived two entire lifetimes.

I’ve been gone for a month as of today, but I feel like I have lived a lifetime out here - in a good way.

Headed out this morning to dive Hin Daeng and Hin Muang. It is supposed to be some of the best diving in the world and the best in Thailand.

My time in Laos is ending tomorrow and it’s been the best time on my trip so far because of our great crew. There are 8 of us from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, The Netherlands, and France.

Another quick update. Trekking in Chiang Mai was amazing - we saw the Hmong hill tribe people, slept in bungalows, and made some really great friends (more on this later.)

Human Highlight


I met my best travel friend, Chris Moisson, in Laos in April of 2014 and have been basically travel-inseperable since then.

In total, we’ve been to 14 countries together: Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, Nepal, Malaysia, Indonesia, Spain, France, Croatia, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, and the USA.



We traveled together for about a week in Laos, parted ways (I was in love with him, he wasn’t interested), then met up again a few months later traveled through southern Europe for a few weeks. Our lives got in the way for a while but we both moved to Koh Tao in 2015: I was a dive instructor and he was a sports fishing guide. We briefly dated and backpacked through Myanmar, Nepal, Malaysia together then lived in Indonesia for a month while he became a dive instructor. We both moved back to Koh Tao in 2016 but eventually parted ways again. Finally, in 2018 we teamed up to backpack through Central America for a couple months.

I haven’t seen him since then, but we talk regularly and I’m going to Australia this spring to see him and meet his family + we are planning a Tibet trip in the fall! Get used to seeing his face, he’s my travel partner in crime.
