We’re in Moscow!
It’s been a minute since I’ve written a location-specific post, but if anywhere deserves it, Russia does.
Some highlights / things to note:
- everyone on the plane claps when you land in Moscow
- English? Hahahahahahaha
- the subway system is massive, deep, and rumored to be built as a dual-purpose bunker system
- I saw Lenin’s embalmed body
- contrary to popular belief, all Russian women are not beautiful, some are actually quite busted
- the Russian people are EXTREMELY kind, happy, and accommodating
- Obnoxious Asian tourists permeate the entire globe, I got into a borderline physical altercation with a few
- 80% of the travelers I’ve met in the hostel are traveling / have travelled on the trans-Siberian RR
- everything is bigger in Russia - roads, buildings, high heels, parks, boulevards, you name it
- communism and the impacts to family and home life are still very present; young people remember eating potatoes for every meal and getting one candy bar and one can of coca cola a year
Overall, I’m extremely impressed. Moscow is huge, modern, beautiful, CLEAN, safe, and fun. The people are an absolute joy. The crisis in Ukraine is spoken about on the news but beyond that it’s almost non-existent.
The more I travel the more I realize that political struggles, sensational news, and aggressive religious groups are the minority in any culture’s overall identity. Everyone in the world is looking for the same things: health, happiness, family, friends, purpose, etc.
The world may seem like a scary place on TV, but you should get out here and see it…it’s perfect.
